Spotlight on Reflexology with Larisa
Me Salon + Spa spotlights: Larisa S. (Reflexology, Manicures, Pedicures, Waxing)
When Larisa was just 12 years old and living in Russia with her family, her mother began to teach her the ancient art of Reflexology. Based on the Eastern wisdom that tells us that the feet are microcosms of our bodies, Reflexology allows the skilled practitioner to tune the body, like a guitar. The feet have thousands of nerves called reflexes that correspond to every system of the body. Some people experience calmness while others feel energized from experiencing this traditional self-balancing practice. Reflexology is recommended for improved circulation, plantar fascitis, headaches and more.
A Certified Master Pedicurist and Reflexology Specialist, Larisa credits her mother for her early interest in Reflexology. Her mother, a manicurist herself was diabetic, and didn't trust anyone else with handling her feet. She wanted her daughter to be able to share this skill. Larisa quickly learned from her mother, and showed a natural talent for it right from the start. A life long love of healing through therapeutic touch began, and today Larisa is one of the area's most popular and respected practitioners. Other modalities she has studied include: Quantum Touch Healing and Entanglement, Aromatherapy, as well as Russian and Tibetan Natural Healing. Recently Larisa led a weekend long retreat at Lake George for a small group of individuals who were able to benefit from her years of knowledge and practice. "Weren't you exhausted doing 8 hour days with sessions lasting up to 2 hours long?" I asked her. A huge grin spread across her face, and she told me that to the contrary, the exchange of energy made her feel happy and energized! Okay, that's it: sign me up.
I saw Larisa on a steamy hot Friday in July. My head was throbbing from an allergy/sinusitus induced headache, and I was ready for some serious relief. She led me into a private spa room with soft lighting and gentle music playing in the background. I was instructed to lie on the massage table with my shoes off. Larisa covered my arms and legs with a soft cotton sheet, and set to work on my feet.
As she applied gentle pressure to different parts of my feet and toes, she explained to me that she could tell from looking at my toes that I was having sinus problems, probably due to allergies. Larisa took her time and worked on my toes until I could, for the first time in days, breathe through both nostrils. The aromatherapeutic oils were a delight to the senses, and I soon felt like I was floating on a cloud of pure relaxation. During my session, Larisa worked on my hands, neck and face as well as my feet. I left pain free, relaxed and happy! We talked about how her manipulation of Reflexology points can help your skin look younger and fresher; guess what I'm signing up for next time!
