Back to School!
Studies have shown that a back to school haircut gives kids confidence to get the new academic year off to a good start. But what about the older student going off to college? How do you give her low maintenance color with high style? And let's not forget that behind every great student there's a supportive mom; doesn't she deserve a fresh look for fall? Let's ask Master Stylist and owner of Me Salon + Spa, Gina Henning for some A+ answers.
Q: Help! My hair is green from swimming in chlorinated pools all summer. What should I do?
Use a good clarifying shampoo to get the green out. I recommend No.4 Clarifying . To prevent it from happening next summer, be sure to wet your hair thoroughly in the shower before jumping in the pool. If your strands are already saturated with non-chlorinated water it can't absorb the pool chemicals that turn it green. A spray on leave in conditioner with UV protection is a plus too; I like Goldwell's Sun Reflects .
Q: I'm going back to college and can't get home for frequent color touch-ups; what do you recommend?
The days of heavy foiling are over! Just a few foils strategically placed will give you color and brightness without a line of demarcation. This low maintenance technique will keep you beautiful all semester. (The trick is to not place the highlights in your part lines!) PS: Mom, send her off to school with the new BioIonic One Pass flat iron. It conditions as it smooths, and really only takes one pass!
Q: Back to school isn't just for kids! I'm a PTA mom, Band mom, and running around like crazy mom! I need a chic cut and easy color for the fall. What's best for me?
It's a great time to warm up too blonde hair from the summer. Think chocolate, cinnamon and caramel tones. Don't forget to switch to a warmer makeup palette as well to complement your new hue. For a great cut, go for something cut above the shoulder to look sophisticated and feminine without trying to look like a schoolgirl yourself!
Q: Any quick fixes for skin that's spent a little too much time at the shore this summer?
Yes, baby that skin with a good, medical grade home care routine. Skinceuticals C E Ferulic, A.G.E. Interrupter and Phyto Corrective Gel are amazing at correcting damage caused by UV radiation, sun and other environmental stressors.
Q: I want to treat myself to a manicure and pedicure before the hectic fall schedule starts up. Any hot new trends I should be on the lookout for?
OPI's new Swiss collection of nail lacquer collection is just the texture and feel for fall fashion. Everyone loves "Yodel Me On My Cell!" So cute for fingers and toes.
